Untamed - CORE
New in v3.0.0 - Skin Alternatives to replace the different armour file options. Every Ranger's Companion with at least 1 skin alternative will have a disguise self spell.

Scaling is now based on overall Character level rather than your Beast Master level
allowing for much easier multiclassing. You must still put 3 levels in Ranger to get the Beast Master sublcass and summon Ranger's Companion ability

3 New Summons. Bat, Panther & Displacer Beast. Click this link to view a google doc of their abilities.

Companion's Bond buff (Add your proficiency bonus to the summons AC and attack/damage rolls) has been moved from level 5 to base passives, meaning the ranger's companion summon will get this buff immediately.

The Extra Attack buff for ranger's companion summons (Allows you to make 2 attacks per turn) has been removed from level 11. Instead your companion will gain an extra action point at level 5. This is to allow for better use of the new abilities. Some stuff (web for example) can still only be used once per turn.

Ranger's companion summons now get Attribute improvements every level rather than only increasing at level 5, 8 and 11. These follow the same scaling as the base game however smooth out the levelling process so that there are no dead levels.

Attributes (Strength, Dex etc.) have been increased overall.

The new attack that summons get at level 11 has been moved to level 10

Better Melee Scaling. At level 6 summons get an extra +1d4 bonus to attack rolls. At level 10 this bonus increases to +2d4.

When you level up with an active Ranger's Companion the summon will not be resummoned automatically. This is intended as the auto resummoning was causing a lot of issues. Now the player must use resummon companion manually to get the higher level summon.

Reduced collision size of Ranger's Companions in an attempt to stop them from getting stuck.

Cooldown Changes (+Swap/Resummon Companion) (Included in CORE)

“Summon Ranger’s Companion” in the base game is a spell that summons a full health companion and can be used every short rest. This mod changes that by introducing some new mechanics: Swap Companion, Resummon Companion and a rework to Dismiss Summon.

“Summon Ranger’s Companion” no longer comes back on a short rest
. Once you use it you cannot use it again until after a long rest after your active ranger’s companion dies.

The Ranger’s Companion will heal 50% of its health on a short rest and heal 100% of its health on a long rest.

When you have an active ranger’s companion you can use “Resummon Companion” which essentially teleports the companion. Or you can use “Swap Companion” which allows you to change to a different companion.

These spells retain the % health the companion had, for example if you had a raven with 50% of its max health, then swapped to a bear it would have 50% of its max health.

“Resummon Companion” and “Swap Companion” have no cooldown outside of combat. “Resummon Companion” cannot be used in combat but “Swap Companion” can be used once in combat.

Dismissing a summon does not block the use of “Resummon Companion” or “Swap Companion”. Meaning you can safely dismiss your companion and resummon it without having to do a long or short rest.

If you short rest whilst your summon is dismissed but not dead then your summon will regain 50% of its health.

If you long rest whilst your summon is dismissed but not dead then your summon will regain 100% of its health.

Ranger’s Companions have been buffed in a few different ways (attribute increases, damage increases, new abilities etc.) which makes up for the changes to the cooldown.

Untamed - EXTRA - Companion at Character Level 1
When a character crouches for the first time they get a spell called "Choose Beast Master".

Using this spell gives you the option between giving the "Ranger's Companion" spell to the character or to deny the new spell and remove the "Choose Beast Master" spell.

Upon respec the character will regain the "Choose Beast Master" spell.

The summon will not auto resummon on levels before level 4. Don't ask why, just use "Resummon Companion" when you level up and it'll have the new level.

Untamed - LITE
Keeps some features from CORE but is more tailored towards vanilla gameplay.

The abilities "Ursine Reinforcements" and "On Black Wings" are incompatible with Resummon/Swap companion and so have had to be changed to a modified version of "Rupture" and "Whirlwind".

DOES INCLUDE:
- Altered attribute scaling (Hit points, Strength, Dex etc.)
- Companions Bond buff as a base passive
- Extra attack passive at level 5
- "Resummon Companion" and "Swap Companion" spells
- Level 11 abilities moved to level 10
- Cooldown changes
- Reduced collision bounds
- Skin Alternatives

DOES NOT INCLUDE:
- Displacer Beast
- Panther

- Vampire Bat
- New abilities
- Altered melee scaling
- 2 action points at level 5

Installation
I highly recommend using BG3 Mod Manager for installation. Install like any other mod. If installing mid-playthrough then respec any characters that have levels in beast master.

  • Load up the game. Respec any characters that have levels in beast master, including companions.
  • Save the game after doing a respec and make sure that no characters have the summon ranger's companion skill.
  • Download and install mod fixer from this link.
  • Download and install Norbyte's Script Extender
  • Add 'Untamed - CORE' to your load order.
  • Any additional 'EXTRA' files should be placed after 'Untamed - CORE' in the load order. In BG3 Mod Manager that means that 'Untamed - CORE' should be above all 'EXTRA' files.
  • 'EXTRA' files are completely optional. The mods works without them
  • Make sure to export the load order using BG3 Mod Manager.
  • Load up the game!

Uninstallation
I DO NOT recommend uninstalling mid-game.
If using 'Untamed - EXTRA - Companion at Level 1':
  • Respec any characters that have levels in beast master, including companions.
  • Any character who has the 'Choose Beast Master' skill you will need to choose to remove the skill. If you don't do this your game will crash.
  • Save the game.
  • Uninstall all Untamed files.
  • Load up the game and the save and should be fine.

If NOT using 'Untamed - EXTRA - Companion at Level 1':
  • Respec any characters that have levels in beast master, including companions.
  • Save the game.
  • Uninstall all Untamed files.
  • Load up the game and the save and should be fine.

Compatibility
Is this mod compatible with other mods that add more ranger’s companions?
No. Well, it's complicated. If another mod changes the Ranger's Companion Summon ability in any way then no it will not be compatible. If another mod adds a new summon with a new ability to summon that creature then yes it's technically compatible but none of the features from this mod will work with it. For example you will not be able to use "Resummon Companion" on another mods summon.

Is this mod compatible with other mods that modify beast master skills?
A compatibility patch will most likely be required. If you find a mod that modifies beast master skills please let me know.

Is this mod compatible with other mods that modify the ranger skills?
Yes. For example Trap Hunter - a complete rework of Ranger (Hunter) will work. However you will need Untamed - EXTRA - Companion at Character Level 1 to actually unlock the skill.

Is this mod compatible with other mods that modify the level cap?
If your character is above level 12 then they will summon ranger’s companions capped at level 12.

Bugs
There are probably bugs. This mod has not been developed by a team, just me on my own so it’s not exactly easy to test every scenario. I have not been able to test this in multiplayer - there might be issues.
Please report any bugs.
