About this mod

This mod lets you change any of your party members into an avatar character (aka origin character). The avatar is basically like the character you pick at character creation who's the party leader and can talk to companions and ask them to join or leave the party etc. No, this has nothing to do with the James Cameron movies or the Last Airbender.

This mod adds 2 spells to every playable character, ApplyAvatar and RemoveAvatar. ApplyAvatar lets you change any of your party members into an avatar and RemoveAvatar can change them back to normal. RemoveAvatar does not work on characters who were already avatars in the first place without using this mod (because I don't actually know how to remove the avatar tag from characters who already have it and also don't see much benefit in it). Edit: There is another similar mod that does allow this and it might be a  better option for some people than my mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/9486?tab=description

Main reason I made this mod is, because of my permadeath mod where I figured that your starting character dying might be detrimental to your campaign as you'd be left without any avatars so I thought this sort of thing could be useful for that and maybe people will find some other uses for this as well.

Please note though that I've only done very brief testing with this mod and don't actually know too much of the effects it might have on your campaign so use it at your own risk. Having multiple avatar characters shouldn't be much of a problem in principle, because you can already do that by playing co-op but changing a character into an avatar mid-playthrough is something else. I don't really suspect it will necessarily break the game or anything, but it could maybe cause some weirdness in the story. One funny thing I noticed is that when you change a companion into an avatar their personal tent will actually disappear instantly from the camp.

You can also use the spell on non-origin companions like Minthara, Jaheira or Hirelings.

Also one issue I noticed is that when you apply or remove the avatar state from a character, the crown symbol that avatars have does not appear or disappear instantly. Removing a character from a party then adding them back should however update the portrait and maybe some other actions will do it as well.

Install by putting the pak file in the mods folder or by using BG3 mod manager. Only requirement is the BG3 mod fixer which you probably already have if you've done a lot of modding.
