Animal's Essence - Homebrew BeastFolk Race
BRINGING CATGIRLS TO A CAMPAIGN NEAR YOU ;)

Originating from the Deep Wilds, BeastFolk are a mystical race of humanoids imbued with the essence of animals. Able to pass entirely as a human, it is quite possible they exist in droves throughout the cities of Faerûn. Due to their mysticism, each subrace of BeastFolk are able to cast a collection of spells with fewer resources.

Introduction
While I was in the midst of creating a new campaign for a longtime OC of mine, I realized that she desperately needed to exist with cat-like abilities. I've had so much fun playing in the custom races and classes the BG3 modding community has made that I wanted to share some of my own work, and that's how my first mod came to life!

This mod is meant to give some fun new combinations when it comes to combat encounters. We're playing fast and loose with animal classifications. Human, elf, and half-elf visuals are available for your customization. If you'd like animal ears/tails, I recommend the supported mods Bunny Ears, Fox Ears & Cat Tails, and Fluffy Ears.

Balancing & Tags
This mod was designed around Tactician/Honor mode combat encounters so it may be significantly OP in Explorer/Balanced modes. The unique passive, Natural Caster, is balanced with spell cooldown requirements (once per battle, once per short rest, once per long rest depending on spell's power). The Kitsune subclass is overpowered by design, particularly if it is paired with a melee combat class.

BeastFolk currently has the Baldurian, Human, Druid, and Ranger tags for dialog.

Subraces:

Progression
Main Race (BeastFolk)
Unique Passive - Natural Caster
  • Your veins flow heavily with nature's blessing, you may cast all spells learned from the Deep Wilds without a spell slot.

Nekojin (Cat Folk)
Unique Spells:
  • BeastShape: magically transform into your beast counterpart. As this form is part of your identity, it requires no extra resources to cast. BeastShape forms are designed to be combat viable at all levels. As with wildshape, reaching 0 HP in this form will revert you back to your natural appearance.
  • Neko Form: Transform to your animal form as a cat that can avoid attention, meow to distract enemies, and fit into small spaces. In this form, you receive a Perception and Stealth bonus.
  • Tressym Form: Transform to your spirit form as a tressym that can fly unnoticed, blind enemies with its claws, and fit into small spaces. In this form, you receive a Perception and Stealth bonus, and an advantage on Dexterity Saving Throws.
  • Panther Form: Transform to your animal form as a panther that can prowl around invisibly. In this form, you receive Blindsight, a Perception and Stealth bonus, and an advantage on Dexterity Saving Throws

Supported Mods
The following mods have patches available for support. If you have more mods you would like patched in, please leave a post with the mod's link. You must download and install the original preset mod in order for the patch to work.
Vemperen's Other Heads Repaired
Vessnelle's Hair (Packs 1-4)*
 xx's New Female Head Preset*
Yves Hair Gallery*

*If you are a mod author that does not want BeastFolk to have a compatibility patch for your mod, please message me and I will take the patch down.

Potential Mod Conflicts
Druid Improvement mods (no known conflicts as of 6/1) - The spells and beastshapes in the BeastFolk mod will not interact with mods that are designed to improve/adjust the Druid class. Good news is that they will not cause crashes! Bad news is that the additional perks you receive in the Druid mod will not impact your BeastFolk character unless they are also a Druid.
Tutorial Chest Spawning (no known conflicts as of 6/8) - I have confirmed mod compatibility with this Tutorial Chest Summoning Mod and the Immersive Tutorial Chest Spawning mod. If you have not updated to the 1.1.0.0+ version of this mod, you will need to manually add underwear to your Tav for the Immersive Chest Spawning mod to work properly.
Unique Tav - Genasi (Saveiro) Patch (known conflict as of 6/7) - When used in the same mod load as BeastFolk, a conflict occurs that makes Body 1 have pitch black skin regardless of which skin tone is selected. This is currently being investigated for a fix.
Ranger Unleashed (known conflict as of 6/21) - Cannot complete character creation due to pending choices but no additional options.
Cause of the issue is known and a fix is being worked on.

Installation
I strongly recommend BG3 Mod Manager, I have not tested alternate forms of installation.

Known Bugs/Quirks:
  • At higher levels, damage for some BeastShape attacks will show as negative. Your attacks will still be positive thanks to the additional die damage along with your ability modifier. In play-testing, the damage taken by enemies was comparable to a normal melee attack for the appropriate level.
  • If you use Appearance Edit Enhanced to switch races during your playthrough, you may also need to respec from level one to receive all of the race features.
  • When using the Hare's Essence spell, your doubled movement speed may not show on the action bar until after you begin moving.
