Dungeon Master's Gathering: Flame Tongue

The Flame Tongue is an iconic weapon in Dungeon & Dragons that has appeared in various editions of the tabletop game. This mod aims to add a faithful interpretation of the weapon (its stats sourced from the D&D 5e Dungeon Master's Guide) to Baldur's Gate 3.

A rare magical sword, this blade can erupt with flames upon command. While inert, the sword glows with fiery energy, waiting to spark ablaze.

Items Added
There are 5 versions of the Flame Tongue added by this mod:
  • Flame Tongue Longsword
  • Flame Tongue Greatsword
  • Flame Tongue Shortsword
  • Flame Tongue Rapier
  • Flame Tongue Scimitar
Each version of the weapon comes with the spell Ignite Flame Tongue. Upon casting (bonus action), the weapon gains an additional 2d6 Fire damage, which lasts until you take a long rest, speak the command word to extinguish the weapon, or no longer have the weapon equipped.

Item Locations

There are 2 ways to acquire the flame tongue in this mod:
  • Tutorial Chest (Cheat Method) - As with many mods, all versions of the Flame Tongue will be available in the nautiloid tutorial chest to take/ignore.
  • Act 2 Dammon (Legit Method) - Depending on the version of the mod installed, Dammon will sell one (or each) version of the Flame Tongue at the Last Night Inn in Act 2.

No matter the version of the mod you install, the tutorial chest will contain all variants of the Flame Tongue at the beginning of the game; the different versions only change legitimate acquisition through Dammon.

Installation

I recommend you use BG3 Mod Manager for installation (order placement doesn't matter). This mod can be installed for new and preexisting playthroughs, you just need to complete a long rest for the vendors to update their stock.

Updating

So far, updating the mod from a previous version should cause no game-breaking bugs (to my knowledge). At most, you may have to re-equip the flame tongue for the mod logic to refresh. To be safe, though, you may want to consider refraining from updating the mod and leaving the update for a new playthrough.

For 2.0.0 users, it is safe (and encouraged) to update to 2.0.1. To have the update take effect, re-equip your flame tongue weapons.

Dependencies

At least according to my mod manager, BG3 Mod Fixer is required for this mod to work.

The armor in the display images comes from AnteMaxx's Basket Full of Equipment mod; consider checking out their stuff!
