About this mod

More spells known for primary and half casters that don't prepare their spells. Also 1 additional cantrip at level 1 for druids, bards, and warlocks.

This mod uses Compatibility Framework to adjust the number of spells learned at each level for primary and half casters that don't prepare their spells (Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Ranger). This does not change how many spell *slots* they have available to cast, just how many spells they can choose from when using those slots. It also adds an extra cantrip at level 1 for Druids, Bards, and Warlocks to match Clerics and Wizards.

To gain these extra spells, a respec will be required. Sometimes, an incorrect number of spells will be available. If so, try selecting a different class, then back (before confirming).

Casters will learn a number of spells equal to their class levels + their highest level spell slot + an additional 2 for primary casters.

Bards and Sorcerers will start with 4 spells known, learn 1 more on even levels, and 2 on odd levels, ending up at 20 spells known.

Warlocks start off the same, except they only learn 1 per level after level 9, as they cap out at level 5 spell slots (Mystic Arcanum spells are not cast with spell slots), ending with 19 spells known.

Rangers will learn 3 spells at level 2, and 1 per level after that, except levels 5 and 9, when they learn 2, ending with 15.

To compare, other full/half casters prepare their class level + casting stat modifier, and can swap their spells at will outside combat.

As far as I know, this mod should not conflict with other mods, unless they also change spells known progression or cantrips learned at level 1.


Making this mod (my 1st for BG3) was made immensely easier due to being able to copy and alter (with permission) most of the CompatibilityFrameworkConfig.json file from Elefay's Better Caster Progression. That mod uses a slightly different progression, along with modifying several other classes and abilities. I encourage anyone to check it out, particularly if you want to make a similar mod, as there's documentation on how it was done. If there are any mistakes in this mod, they're likely mine and not Elefay's :)
