While looking for something to create a mod I've noticed that the game uses I2.Loc, probably to be ready for localization once the developer think it's worth it (smart move btw). I'm stupid tho, and I want to translate Dinkum NOW (futhermore, my girlfriend doesn't speak a really good english and love this game, so it will be nice if she could play in our language), so I wrote a Bepinex Plugin to prefix the GetTranslation method and basically add language support to Dinkum through xml files.
Translation will be done using a self-hosted Weblate platform
- Install BepInEx and run it once
- Install "Unofficial Translation Project - DLL Files" using Vortex or by copying "mystikal.dinkum.translator.dll" into "BepInEx\plugins\" folder
- Install "Unofficial Translation Project - Translation Files" using Vortex or by copying the entire "translations" folder into "BepInEx\plugins\" folder. If installed correctly you should have something like "BepInEx\plugins\translations\<2 letter language code>\"
- Run the game again, it will create the file "BepInEx\config\mystikal.dinkum.translator.cfg"
- Open "BepInEx\config\mystikal.dinkum.translator.cfg" and edit the line language = en with your language code
(or if you want to replace the font used in the game anyway)
You just need to install this package and select "ru" or "zh" as language in mystikal.dinkum.translator.cfg. If you want to change the font used you can place it in "BepInEx\plugins\patched_font" and change this lines in the config file:
- alternative_font = NotoSans-SemiBold.ttf
This font is used for Russian or if always_use_alt_font is set to true - alternative_font_for_zh = NotoSansSC-SemiBold.ttf
This font is used for Simplified Chinese
You can help me translate this game here. You just need to sign up and you're good to go! For now I didn't put any type of revision or authorization to translate, we will see if needed once the project take off
I know, there is not a lot of explanation on that website, I will write as soon as I can. I trust you'll be able to figure it out yourself using Weblate Documentation for now!
If you need me, you can find me (Mystikal) on the Dinkum Discord channel, or you can DM me using Discord, I'll try to be as active as I can
Now it comes the hard part: patch every hardcoded strings. This kind of string need to be treated each one individually and it will be PAINFUL. I will make it, I promise
For now every dialogue and item string have been extracted and translated in Italian (and are available for translation in otherl languages. I now need to handle the various menu ingame, the journal, some tooltip, partially the bulletin board and some other stuff
Still, I can confidently say that the game is playable in Italian by someone that barely knows English
Meanwhile, some amazing people joined the project and started translating into German, Dutch, Russian and French. I'm sure they will complete the translation by themself, but if anyone want to help, we will be eternally grateful
- A lot of testing with different languages

- A lot of coffee
- Release this mod's project on GitHub so other people can make similar mod for other games (it should be pretty easy)

- A lot of other stuff
