About this mod

Guide to manually modding DA2 on Linux (includes Steam Deck).

Permissions and credits
Changelogs
Before I begin, this is for the Steam version of the game. I don't know if this works if you didn't get it from Steam. It may be
the same, it might not. I don't know and I don't have the resources to test it. If it is, please let me know and I'll edit this!

Assumptions in this guide:

You already have hidden files showing in your file manager.

You have run DA2 at least once to generate the compatdata folder.

You know how to create symlinks.

Installing mods:

DA2 is quite literally the easiest game of the three Dragon Age games to mod. As far as I know, there's only mods that go into the override folder, which you can find here:

home/.steam/steamapps/compatdata/1238040/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Bioware/DragonAge 2/packages/core/override

Extract the archive, rename the folder for organization if you care and put everything in the override folder. That's it, you're done.

For mods including a chargenmorphcfg.xml file, you'll need to combine them as you can only have one in the override folder at once. Just copy the lines used in the mod to the same part in the chargenmorphcfg.xml file in the override.

And you're done.

Note on importing Dragon Age Origins saves:

Because of Origins and 2 using separate compatdata folders, 2 won't be able to find your Origins saves to import. To fix this:

Copy over your Dragon Age folder from home/.steam/steamapps/compatdata/47810/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Bioware/Dragon
Age and you're good to go.

If you have mods installed, feel free to delete them from the copied Dragon Age folder, they won't affect anything besides taking up space.

You can also just make a symlink so you never have to copy saves over again, I personally prefer to have the extra copies just in case. You never
know with mods and it's better to have extra copies and not need them!
