Overview

Changes weapons ability to dismember or explode body parts.
As a guideline I adhered to the following rules:
  • Ballistic weapons no longer dismember or explode.
  • Lasers weapons, blades and saws only dismember.
  • Explosions and blunt melee only explode.
Robot, turret and follower weapons (like Gutsy saws or Piper's 10mm) follow these guidelines as well, creature attacks are unchanged.
Most vanilla weapons are affected, excluding those that already follow above guidelines.
Modded weapons require custom patches, please see the Technical Details section below for some hints.

Requirements

UFO4P - I forwarded some changes making this a hard requirement.
When using a body replacer, make sure it supports dismemberment, eg:
EBV with dismemberment - for Enhanced Vanilla Bodies.

Installation

Use a mod manager to install.
Rerun your item patchers, eg M8r Complex Sorter, if you use one.
While I generally do not recommend it, this mod only changes records that do not persist in saves, so it is possible to install or uninstall at any time.

Compatibility

The mod makes changes to most vanilla weapon records, any mod that overwrites these requires patching.
Gunsmith Overhaul - patch included in the Fomod installer.
ECO + Gunsmith Overhaul - alternative patch in Fomod, when using GSO on top of Equipment and Crafting Overhaul (ECO).
Mods that only change textures or meshes of vanilla weapons will be compatible.
Weapon rebalance mods will require conflict resolution and patching with xEdit.

Technical Details

This mod changes the DNAM-Data - On Hit record for most vanilla weapons. There is an alternative way of affecting race records instead, which creates fewer conflicts and will affect even modded weapons, but the downside is that it does not allow to differentiate between weapons.
Creating patches for mods that change the weapon records or add new weapons is probably a good entry point to learn conflict resolution in xEdit and I encourage everyone to give it a shot.

Alternatives

No Exploding and No Dismember from Guns - this mod does functionally a similar thing. I disliked a few of the changes in that mod and it also didn't forward recent UFO4P changes, which lead me to create my own mod from scratch.
No Organic Dismemberment only Blood - targets race records instead and doesn't require patching for weapon mods, but can not distinguish between weapons.
