About this mod

Changes the terrain and foliage textures to line up better with some of the first looks we got of the game back in 2017.

(This was made for myself in tandem with an attempt to re-evaluate the game's campaign six years after it came out. I have no plans of porting this to the second game or giving that dumpster fire any more attention than I already have. Please don't ask.)

In very early promotional material for the game from mid-late 2017, namely the pre-rendered reveal trailer and our first look at in-game footage, the game had a pretty different look - namely the terrain and foliage, which were more realistically-hued than what the final game presents. This mod recolors most of the terrain and foliage to better reflect these first impressions. It isn't perfect by any means, nor is it nearly as drastic as some other environment overhaul mods, but I think it gets the look down well enough.

  • The Grass and Dirt brushes speak for themselves. They're explicitly modelled off of the old trailers.
  • The Sand brush is based off of the pre-rendered announcement trailer, where it's evidently supposed to be like a sort of path brush going off of the context it's used in. Man, that trailer was dishonest; maybe I should go further with mods that try to make the game reflect it more...?
  • The Rock brush is a bit of a weasel call owing to it never being shown in a decent capacity either of the early trailers. The dark color here is based off of what I think looks best next to the grass and dirt more than anything. Perhaps I could make an alternate version of this mod where the rock is a lighter color.
  • The Shale brush is the same as in the vanilla game.
  • The amount of effort needed to make the foliage match the original trailers would be overkill; the basic composition of forests and shrubs in the second trailer is drastically different from the final game and would take a whole lot more than just a recolor job to match them here. As such, here, the foliage colors have just been subjected to similar edits to what was done with the grass brush.
To install, drag the provided 'Environment' folder into the following directory:

steam\steamapps\common\Jurassic World Evolution\Win64\ovldata\Content0\

If prompted to replace anything, either select "yes" for every prompt or "yes to all". Do not rename the folder, do not rename anything in the folder and do not put the folder in any of the folders already inside of ovldata.

Though backups are included in each folder, it still won't hurt to backup your existing files.
