About this mod

This mod makes the weakest Mercenary Companies a little stronger by giving them an extra unit of Brigands.

Motivation

Some of the Mercenary Companies felt a bit weak, so I slightly buffed them while leaving the stronger ones unchanged.

Features

I defined the costs per Merc unit as follows, which is very close to what I assume Greg had in mind when setting the prices:

  • Brigands: 15
  • Mercenary Archers: 20
  • Mercenary Heavy Archers: 25
  • Mercenary Spearmen: 30
  • Mercenary Infantry: 35

With this in mind, I adjusted the cost for the Mercenary Companies, both the ones I've changed and the ones I left alone. They are now composed of the following units, with costs in brackets:

  • Local Thugs (30): 2x Brigands (instead of 1x)
  • Brigands for Hire (45): 3x Brigands (instead of 2x)
  • Brotherhood of the Forest (50): 1x Merc Archers, 2x Brigands (instead of 1x)
  • The Wayward Sons (60): 1x Merc Archers, 1x Heavy Merc Archers, 1x Brigands (new)
  • Battle Brothers (65): 1x Merc Spearmen, 1x Merc Infantry - Note: These have no special Traits, so there is an argument to be made to make them cheaper (probably the reason why they are so cheap in Vanilla, at 50). But I haven't tested how much of a difference those Traits make in practice, so I kept the regular formula.
  • Flock of Crazy Geese (85): 1x Merc Infantry, 1x Merc Spearmen, 1x Merc Archers
  • Greencaps (90): 2x Merc Infantry, 1x Merc Archers
  • Vultures (100): 2x Merc Infantry (instead of 3x), 1x Merc Spearmen (replacement for Infantry)

Technical Stuff

This mod edits DT_MercenaryCompanies.uasset, so it will be incompatible with any other storage or Retinue size mods.

Installation

1) Download ZIP file.
2) Extract ZIP file.
3) Place .pak file in your \steamapps\common\Manor Lords\ManorLords\Content\Paks\~mods. If it doesn't exist, create the folder
first.
4) Load your save and wait for the month to tick over so the Merc contracts are refreshed.
5) Profit!!!

Can be installed and uninstalled mid-playthrough. The adjusted cost and company sizes only apply after the Mercenary Contracts refresh at the start of each month, so don't be surprised if the changes do not show up right away.

Note: This does NOT fix the bug that toward the late game, the selection of Mercs goes down because the Baron snatches them all up.

Disclaimer: I will not guarantee mod support until the end of time. I generally only maintain my mods as long as I actively play the game, so if and when I lose interest, this will likely not see an update.
