Kip Ahrk Bahlok (Dragon Tongue for “food and hunger”) is a small overhaul of the food and needs system introduced by Creation Club’s Survival Mode. This mod makes the needs system slightly less taxing, and overhauls every single food item and recipe to be more realistic. This is a re-worked port of the original XB1 mod that sforzinda made (I really just calculated the food values). This version is slightly more simplistic, and only focuses on food and needs.

The changes this mod introduces are as follows:

Food

  • The “Hunger Restore” values for food items now have a wider ranger. Instead of the four existing tiers of hunger values, there are now nine.
  • Hunger values for all food items are changed to reflect real-world calorie counts based on estimated size of the items in-game and the caloric data of their real-world equivalent or something close enough (hard to find calories for a Snowberry Crostata). I did meticulous research on this and feel pretty good about the items.
  • Magic buffs have been removed from all food. Food only restores Hunger points.
  • Two foods have unique changes. Sacks of Flour can give you food poisoning, as eating raw flour can give you food poisoning in real life. Butter is very high in Hunger points, but causes a 90% reduction to stamina regeneration. You try running after you eat a stick of butter.
  • Recipes have been tweaked slightly where it made sense: now baked goods will all require flour, milk, and butter. Alternative recipes are added for those that require apples to make sure it will work for either red or green apples. Cooking food will now yield multiple servings.
  • Alcohol will now give warmth and fortify against cold for a limited amount of time, similar to hot soups and stews.
  • All general goods stores will now sell salt, milk, butter, and flour. All inns will sell hot foods and Hearthfire foods. New Gnisis Cornerclub will sell Dunmeri food from Solstheim, as well as Sadri’s prized Sujamma.

Needs

  • Cold, Exhaustion, and Hunger stages are larger by 25%
  • Cold, Exhaustion, and Hunger rates build up slower by 20%

  • Cold Stage 2 will no longer have a movement penalty. Lockpicking and Pickpocketing will be 15% harder (original: 30%).
  • Cold Stage 3 limits movement by 10% (original: 20%). Lockpicking and Pickpocketing will be 30% harder (original: 50%).
  • Cold Stage 4 limits movement by 20% (original: 30%). Lockpicking and Pickpocketing will be 50% harder (original: 70%).
  • Cold Stage 5 limits movement by 40% (original: 40%). Lockpicking and Pickpocketing will be 70% harder (original: 90%).

  • Exhaustion Stage 2 will no longer affect potion effectiveness. Magicka and Stamina will regenerate 10% slower (original: 40%).
  • Exhaustion Stage 3 will reduce potion effectiveness by 40%. Magicka and Stamina will regenerate 20% slower (original: 40%). Resistance to diseases is down by 10%.
  • Exhaustion Stage 4 will reduce potion effectiveness by 60%. Magicka and Stamina will regenerate 40% slower (original: 80%). Resistance to diseases is down by 20%.
  • Exhaustion Stage 5 will reduce potion effectiveness by 60%. Magicka and Stamina will regenerate 80% slower (original: 100%). Resistance to diseases is down by 40%.

  • Hunger Stage 2 will not affect weapon speed. Blocking and Sneaking will be 10% harder (original: 30%).
  • Hunger Stage 3 limits weapon speed by 10% (original: 40%). Blocking and Sneaking will be 20% harder (original: 50%).
  • Hunger Stage 4 limits weapon speed by 20% (original: 40%). Blocking and Sneaking will be 40% harder (original: 70%).
  • Hunger Stage 5 limits weapon speed by 40% (original: 40%). Blocking and Sneaking will be 80% harder (original: 90%).

  • Food poisoning will now cause Magicka and Stamina to recover 80% slower.
  • You will now receive 50% less damage from being in freezing water.

Compatibility

  • Kip Ahrk Bahlok is NOT compatible with other mods that will also edit Survival Mode (except the Unofficial Creation Club Content Patch).
  • It is also not compatible with mods that edit food records (including changes such as weight, price, name, etc.) and recipes (it IS compatible with mods that change the texture or mesh of food items).
  • It is not compatible with mods that alter merchants’ chests for general goods stores and inns without making a Bashed or Smashed Patch, as this mod adds leveled items to the merchant chests.
  • The original mod did not conflict with MorrowLoot Ultimate so I am assuming this one doesn't either, but I don't use that so can't guarantee it.

It is highly recommended that you start a new game with this mod. It is highly recommended that you run a Smashed or Bashed patch if you have anything else that modifies innkeeper inventories and general goods stores. A simple smashed patch has been doing the trick for me just fine.

Notes

  • KAB obviously requires Survival Mode, but also requires USSEP.
  • KAB changes alcohol, so should be loaded after other mods that may lump alcohol in with potions. KAB does not touch any potion in any way.
  • I will not provide patches for this and any other mod. If I can figure out how to edit and port this, you can figure out to make a patch for it.

A sincere and honest thank you to sforzinda for their generosity in sharing the original file with me.
