About this mod

This mod prevents player from casting any heal spell unless they have min Magicka value of 200, this also removes starting spells like Healing and Flames.

Restoring Life is a very rare skill and it requires extensive training or one has to have some affinity by birth. IRL one can study and pass out from medical college, but very few are talented surgeons or good quality doctors, thus I felt healing and mending wounds in Skyrim should not be achieved easily.

Healing is the most OP spell in vanilla Skyrim, as soon as the player starts the game they have access to this Spell. Most time People decide they won't use magic and will play as a warrior or non magic character, but eventually they end up being good at everything. In CRPGs or other RPGs Healing characters have stats like Wisdom, Piety. These stats gives access to more healing spells and more healing potency. Thus from the start this stat will be higher for healing classes. This forces people to spend more points into this stat to make their class or role better at healing.

Skyrim does not have a stat system, thus I used attribute to measure the affinity of a character. The player who wants to cast heal spell, should invest 10 levels into magicka then they get eligibility to cast healing spells, 10 levels is a good amount of playtime and people get habituated with their playstyle. Magicka investment is not gonna be a waste for spell casters as they need magicka as a resource.

Warrior players now need to think if they want to cast heal by spending points in Magicka or invest in stamina and health and on potions to Increase survival.

Questions and Answers

Q. How does this work?
A: Player can cast heal spells if they buy from merchants, the character will also do healing animation, but it won't restore lost health, unless you have 200   Magicka or more. Sorry I can't make the spell fail and play the fail sound effect (I don't know how to do that)

Q. Why not Increase Cost of Healing Book?
A: Gold is Easy as AF to gain, after Bleakfalls barrow most players are rich AF.

Q. Why not use Perks to Limit?
A: I didn't use Perks to limit healing, as Apprentice level only need a skill level of 25 and it's easy to reach and only require 2 level up.

Q. Why not Increase base cost of spells?
A. I also thought of changing cost of Spells but I didn't want to mess with vanilla value for compatibility.

Q. How will I install this mod?
A: Use any fav mod manager of your choice.

  • Main File: Healing Spells need 200 Magicka, all starting spells removed.
  • AI Overhaul Version: Healing Spells need 200 Magicka, all starting spells removed, use this only with AI Overhaul mod.
  • Optional Version: Healing Spells need 200 Magicka, player has access to starting spells.


  • Please use the AI Overhaul version if you use that mod.
  • Don't ask me for different versions.
  • Please be free to make changes and redistribute.
  • Won't work with Spell mods.
  • Will be useless with mods that add more than 200 Magicka at start.
