What does Better Smithing do?

This mod makes the so-called "double improvements" apply to all weapons and armors regardless of what smithing perks you have. The smithing perks are now only required for crafting new items, not for improving them. This change makes items previously unaffected by smithing perks, like iron and hide armor, more viable for the player to use. In short, this mod allows you to improve any item "twice as much" and not only those with a related perk as in vanilla.

Activation / Deactivation

A book is added to your inventory when the mod is first enabled. This book is used to activate/deactivate the mod. Follow the instructions contained therein. You can freely use the book to activate/deactivate the mod as many times as you want.

This mod may be installed and uninstalled at any time. It's recommended to use the book to deactivate the mod first in-game before uninstalling, though.

Compatibility

Better Smithing is compatible with Vokrii. Not tested with other perk mods.

USSEP is required for this mod to work correctly. Without it, improvements of some weapon/armor types will be unbalanced (too strong or too weak), although it should still behave correctly in most cases.

This mod does not edit the vanilla perks directly, so it may be compatible with other perk mods as long as they do not edit the vanilla smithing perks too much (the double improvement effect and what crafting materials they affect, to be exact). If the mod does not play nice with only some weapons/armors, you can always use the book to temporarily disable the mod.

Known Issues

When starting a new game with Live Another Life installed, the book may not appear in inventory. This can be fixed by installing the mod after you have finished creating your character. Or alternatively, by using console commads to add the book to your inventory manually.
