About this mod

Modifies the "Missing In Action" quest so that any character can save Thorold with minimal or no bloodshed.

Not Compatable with The Choice is Yours by kryptopyr unless you modify that mod with SSEedit to remove the Missing in Action Quest from her mod.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Changelogs
Just Save Thorold USSEP Version:

No scripts, checked with SSEEdit for ITMs and wild edits.

New in version USSEP Version:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Single ESP saves a slot and avoids patches which are failure prone.
Requires USSEP as a Master ..... not having the UnofficialSSEPatch will cause immediate CTD
Cleaned things up further, found a way to get Thorold to exit properly.

It is also possible now to save the all prisoners of Northwatch cellblock  and actually have them survive.  Normally it is necessary to kill every single Thalmor in the entire prison to do this.  They will also exit the secret way.

Updated the book so reading it adds a map marker for Northwatch Keep on your map.

Made the alternate entrance to Northwatch easy to find if you read the book, very hard if you don't.

Cleaned up the navmeshing so Thorold will follow you out of the keep and complete this part of quest.

Installation:

Load up with USSEP version using MO or equivalent
If using The Choice is Yours use SSEedit to remove the Missing in Action Quest  from that mod
I you use "The Choice is Yours" raw then Northwatch.esp MUST go after "The Choice is Yours" by kryptopyr or you will miss clues...... NOT SUPPORTED ...... LOOKS UGLY in SSEedit
No scripts, save to install/uninstall

Updating:
Go indoors in a interior not related the quest
Remove old version of mod (Just Save Thorold)
Start up game and make new save
Load up with new version using MO or equivalent
If using The Choice is Yours use SSEedit to remove the Missing in Action Quest  from that mod
I you use "The Choice is Yours" raw then Northwatch.esp MUST go after "The Choice is Yours" by kryptopyr or you will miss clues...... NOT SUPPORTED ...... LOOKS UGLY in SSEedit
No scripts, save to install/uninstall

Why Make this Mod?

Ever hate it that Bethsoft bent over backwards to make Northwatch Keep a miserable experience, with all those Thalmor and Master locks?

You leave the Bannered Mare and see two Battleborn bullies harassing an old woman who lost her son. You fight the urge to chop them up into little pieces and wish Bethsoft gave you something interesting to say about this = Nope.  You decide to help.  You haul your butt over to Solitude to find a peaceful solution  = Nope.  You try to find a way to sneak in and after an hour of searching = Nope.  You try to sneak in = A big Master Lock Nope. You try to fight your way in = Instadeath Nope

You get tired of Bethesda running you around, you suspect the Thalmor are always leveled above you (they are not) = Big Nope to completing the quest

What Does this Mod Do?

The way Bethsoft designed this quest was realistic but very unsatisfying.  The Thalmor aren't stupid

This quest gives a believable way to bypass the Thalmor so you can rescue Thorold at an early level with minimal carnage (no carnage if you have SneakTools and are lucky with NPC AI and placements).

What Does this Mod NOT Do?

It adds no scripts and doesn't change the Missing in Action quest except to modify one line of player dialog. You can rescue Thorold with and without help but without flows better.

It doesn't make things too easy as there are no extra quest markers unless you read the book.

Does it Need a New Game?

Doesn't seem to but install before bringing the evidence to Thorold's father

Why Bother Making this Mod?

For such a simple mod it took quite a bit of time to make, most of which was riding the bucking bronco called the CK

This quest really irked me because it is presented just at the time when the player may have avoided killing any sentient "living" beings.  Then comes the bullying of Fralia by the Battleborns and this invests the player to help her.  The game further invests you in the quest by offering peaceful solutions that don't work, and sucking your time looking for a non-violent way in. Nothing works and now Bethesda has you on the hook and invested to start the carnage to save a woman's son or walk away.  It is like a lesson on how to break a person's resistance to violence.

This mod actually provides another way instead of pretending to.
