Description

While playing the UC Vanguard questline, you may encounter an issue, where the "Eyewitness" quest will never start after completing the previous one, "Delivering Devils". When this happens Hadrian will forever remain in the back room of the Cydonian inn, never to proceed to New Atlantis and be completely unresponsive when trying to talk to her. As a result you are now locked out of the rest of the questline until starting a new game or entering NG+.

The reason this is happening is frankly quite shocking and unexpected. Every time you arrive in New Atlantis, there will be a female ship technician which will be inspecting your ship. Due to some wild oversight, this single, completely unprotected NPC is a required quest alias for the entire quest, even when it is not actually doing anything in it. As a result, if this NPC ends up dying for whatever reason, the alias will fail to fill and the quest will never start. For me it was even more ridiculous, as this NPC ended up teleporting to the south of New Atlantis, hundreds of meters in the air and falling to her death without me even realizing what was going on very early in the playthough. Welcome to Bethesda games everyone!

This mod changes this ship technician's and precautionary 2 more secondary aliases to optional, so even if something ends up happening to them, the quest will proceed as normal and not fail to start. Furthermore if you load a save where the quest has already failed to start, it will automatically kickstart again, so you can carry on with the rest of the questline. This bug has been reported to Bethesda on their official discord months ago but there is no official fix so far.

Requirements

Plugins.txt Enabler

Installation/Uninstallation

1. If you haven't already set up loose files modding, navigate to Documents\My Games\Starfield and create a StarfieldCustom.ini, if you don't already have it.
2. Add the following lines to StarfieldCustom.ini:
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
3. Install Plugins.txt Enabler and its requirements and carefully follow the instructions on its mod page. This is a VERY important step, otherwise the mod will not work, so make sure you do this correctly!
4. Install this mod with the latest version of a mod manager like Mod Organizer 2 (recommended) or Vortex. Please save yourself the headaches and don't install mods manually.
5. (Vortex only) Create a Plugins.txt file and add EyewitnessStartupFix.esm to it as explained on the Plugins.txt Enabler mod page.

Safe to install/uninstall at any time. It's enough to load a bugged save file once and wait for the quest to start. Afterwards you can safely remove this mod, if you want to save a plugin slot.

Compatibility

Not compatible with mods that are changing the UC04 quest.
