About this mod

Standalone improved weapon, helmet, and backpack displays

*** DESCRIPTION ***
Wanted to build a museum of weapons and gear in my ship.  Good modders allowed editing in ship, but vanilla displays [tirade redacted].  Used SF1Edit to create new and improved versions of some of the displays:

Weapon Racks: See pictures (white text labels) for populate order and what can be held.  Can display many arrangements by adding and removing things in correct order.
  • Wide, floor & wall versions:  Can stack floor version.  Wall version still very hard to get to snap well.
  • Tall, floor & wall versions:
  • Hex = Only vanilla model that reliably snaps to wall.  Now holds pistols (small), rifles/shotguns (long), and tools (heavy) weapons
Weapon case tilt 88 = Tilt weapon case now holds 8 guns, staggered to fit.  Can take pistols (small), rifles/shotguns (long)

Gear Stands: all populate top to bottom
  • Short hp = Helmet over pack
  • Short h2 = Two helmets
  • Tall hphp = Helmet over pack, helmet over pack
  • Tall h4 = Four helmets
  • Tall p3 = Three packs
  • Wall h/p = Wall stand that can take one of either a helmet or pack
Gear plaque hp4 Left & Right = Wall plaque that holds 4 helmets and 4 packs, populated out from plaque in direction named

*** WARNINGS ***
This is the first mod I have ever made.  I make no guarantee that it will work for you, and I caution that this mod may mess up your game or saves.
That said, it is quite simple and I tested it a bunch, only finding the issues below.
*** COMPATIBILITY ***
Does not modify any game files, just adds new ones.  So should not interfere with any other mods.
*** KNOWN ISSUES ***
  • Different backpacks do not sit at a consistent height relative to spawn point on racks.  I set locations to accommodate range and avoid clipping.
  • Preview of backpacks and helmets while in the inventory of the racks doesn't work (shows up blank).  No idea why that is happening.
  • Some helmets and backpacks are not perfectly in contact with racks/may be floating a bit.  I prioritized them not clipping into each other vs. looking perfectly realistic relative to the rack.
  • Some weapons have very short detailed display distance, so look very glitchy on racks unless really close.  This is a vanilla issue I don't know how to fix.
  • Cannot get Melee weapons to show up on displays.  There is a snap node but it doesn't seem to work.
  • May be slight clipping between bigger weapons on racks.
  • Some players have reported issues with putting things on racks then travelling to another location only to find all the racks are empty and the stuff on them is gone forever.  My suspicion is:
    Spoiler:
    Show
this is due to there being different classes of vanilla gun racks that look exactly the same.  There are loot racks that spawn in compounds/ships and will generate loot, and there are outpost racks that can be created by the player.  I suspect these racks have different protocols for saving contents, and some players are loading items onto racks that are loot racks and finding they get disappeared when they reload an environment.  For example when you get the mantis ship, there are guns on many of the racks which may mean those racks are loot generators, not outpost storage racks, so if you put things into those racks it may not save.
I have tested jumping around with my mod and everything stayed, but still I recommend saving a bunch and testing for yourself.
  • Displaying many things may overwhelm your computer hardware, so bedazzle at your own risk.

*** INSTALLATION ***
  • SAVE YOUR GAME in a good spot prior to loading this mod.
  • Install Plugins.txt Enabler

  • Add the following line to your Plugins.txt file:

*** IN GAME USAGE ***
Floor versions of weapon racks can stack.  For easiest stacking, stand on end of rack.  For stacking three, stack 1 on top of 2, then select 2 to stack on top of 3.
Use population order to get arrangement desired.  Sometimes this will mean adding something temporarily so you can put something in the next slot, then remove the temp item again.
