About this mod

Now you can add more character Backgrounds and Traits to your existing character in a somewhat immersive way that will also cost you credits.

My mods are completely free for use, but if you like you can donate via:

Main Features

Go to the House of the Enlightened or Sanctum Universum in either New Atlantis or Akila City and you will find a white "Meditation Cushion" you can use to activate the menu and spend your credits.

You will also get the option to add a free Background and Trait each time you load into a New Game+.

By default a Background will cost 300,000 credits to purchase and a Trait is 100,000. Any Background related skills you already have will be refunded with a free skill point.

Features:
  • Grants you a semi-immersive way to utilise your hard-earned credits for meaningful gains
  • Enables more role-playing options, especially where NG+ is concerned
  • All game related functions for the Traits will work such as quests and activities, although some vanilla game Trait removal dialogue won't work until your next New Game+ if added mid-playthrough
  • Should be compatible with any other mods - even if they don't appear in my menus... I'll gradually add menus for other mods when I get time.

TODO (maybe?):
  • Add menus for Better Backgrounds mod
  • Add menus for more Background and Trait mods
  • Add an option to remove some Backgrounds and Traits

Does not:
  • Does not allow you to add more Background or Traits in the character creation screens
  • Does not modify any Backgrounds, Traits or skills
  • Does not rank-up Background related skills if you already have them - a free Skill Point is awarded instead

Installation
Install with your favourite Mod Organiser

Ensure you have Plugins.txt Enabler mod installed with it's configuration in place. I still see people missing this step when commenting on various mod pages across the Nexus, so I will put some brief info here:
Spoiler:
Show

You need the Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) installed first. NOTE: At this time there is no script extender support for the Xbox/Windows store versions of the game - you'll have to wait until official mod support is enabled by Bethesda.

Then the plugins.txt enabler mod installed.

Both Vortex and MO2 now support managing the load order and thus the Plugins.txt file. Manual edits are no longer required.

There also needs to be a symlink or shortcut from \Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data to your \steamapps\common\starfield\data folder - but Vortex & MO2 should set this up for you - check Vortex's setting for Starfield, it should tell you if this is set up wrong.

Also remember to now start the game with sfse_loader.exe and not Starfield.exe. Both Vortex and MO2 will handle this as well.

Compatibility

Should work happily alongside any other mods as the only game forms modified are a flag I added to the Sanctum Universum, House of Enlightened, and The Well cells to match what is set in the Starfield Community Patch so it wouldn't clash.

Any Background or Trait mods are compatible, including those that enable more to be chosen at character creation.

I have included menu support for these mods - you'll need to install them if you want them:
I may include others in future if there is enough interest.

Uninstallation

Should be removeable if you want, but any additional Backgrounds and Traits will remain.
