About this mod
The Deep End makes the game increasingly difficult with each new NG+ loop, up to NG+100. With each new NG+ loop ground combat damage received by the player is increased by 25% and ship damage received by 10% (vanilla only increases both by 10% and caps them out at NG+10). Becoming more and more fragile - how close to The Deep End can you get?
- Requirements
- Permissions and credits
- In general, damage received by the player is increased by 10% each loop, capping at 100% increase in NG+10
- In general, damage dealt by the player is decreased by 5% each loop, capping at 50% reduction in NG+10
- There are optional specific settings for EM/Shield damage (including ship combat, I guess) as well as explosive damage, each dealt and received, which just behave the same as above though in vanilla
The Deep End modifies and extends this framework:
- In general, damage received by the player is increased by 25% each NG+ loop, only capping at 25x times the damage received in NG+100
- EM/Shield damage (including ship combat, I guess) as well as explosive damage received by the player are increased by 10% each NG+ loop, capping at 10x times the damage received in NG+100
- Damage dealt by the player - all damage types, incl. EM/Shield and explosives - behaves still as in vanilla: it is decreased by 5% each NG+ loop, capping at 50% reduction in NG+10
The effect is that the player becomes more and more vulnerable in ground and - to a lesser degree - ship combat with each new loop, up to a point where eventually even a stray bullet might be deadly.
I hope you enjoy the ever increasing challenge of each new loop and draw some fun from this. See you out there in the Field :-).
Perspective
I might look into adding special rewards or easter eggs in dialogue etc. the closer a player gets to The Deep End.
How it was done
The Deep End is an .esm mod, made with xEdit. It's a single .esm file that only changes values (specifically PlayerUnityDamagePerk). No scripting involved. All values changed can easily be seen when opening the mod file with xEdit.
Installation
- First make sure to enable Archive Invalidation
- Then please install Plugins Enabler
- Download the mod, unzip it and place TheDeepEnd.esm into your game's data folder
- In your plugins.txt file please add the line *TheDeepEnd.esm (preferably at the end, so the changes are not accidentally overwritten by other mods)
Credits
Without xEdit and Elminster's work of a genius all this would not be possible, so, many kudos to Elminster and team.
Notes
If you like challenging gameplay, a shout out to Scarcity at Starfield Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com), which already includes The Deep End.
