CAVEAT EMPEROR

(item 1 below is a
PITA!!!. And quite limiting! Tips how to deal with it presented further down (green titles))

  • Each aromor piece in each preset needs to be the only one in your inventory of it's type (base item)!
  • Both Preset saving and equip process is rather slow on my setup (multisecond)
  • To Save Preset Your Helmet and Suit need to be visible. So do it on inhospitable planet or turn related options in inventory off.

Saving Armor Preset XYZ:

  • Don the 1-4 armor pieces you want to save as preset
  • Terminal in your ships cockpit
  • Personal Records
  • Armor Preset and Quickslot Equip
  • Click the correspondig "Save currently worn armor as XYZ Preset"
  • Wait some seconds while mod unequips your currently worn pieces. Saves the base item ids and puts your armor back on.
  • An activator Apparel "ArmorPreset XYZ" for that preset will be placed in your inventory.
  • Optional: Add activator to your quickslot menu

Equipping Armor Preset XYZ:

Acitvate/Equip the "ArmorPreset XYZ" Apparel either from your inventory. Or your quickslot menu.
The armor switch takes 3-5 seconds on my end. Lemme know if it is as slow on your end.

Your Activator Disappeared / You no longer need a preset

The activator apparel pieces can be deleted (dropped, put in cargohold and jettisoned).
If you need one back. Simply re-save/configure the corresponding preset via the cockpit terminal.

Tips/Approaches of how to deal with that PITA
"every piece in every preset needs to be unique in your inventory"

Quick Explainer of the issue:
The Inventory/Container management Bethesda provides via Papyrus is VERY suboptimal!
We only get access to an items base id. Not it's object reference.
A Superior Pirate Sniper Spacesuit with full mods installed and 3 legendaries has the same Base Item ID as a basic ones with no mods/legendaries.

So if you saved the former kickass Pirate Sniper Spacesuit as part of a preset. And your inventory as well has the basic one.
It is a toss which one gets equipped.

If you only had the superior one and loot another pirate sniper suit. Next time you use the equip preset.
It is a toss which one gets equipped.

Darkstar Manufacturing Mod: ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/8919 )

It is a kickass mod very well worth having. So check it out even if you don't end up using this mod here.

For our issue here is it adds among other things. Standalone separate versions of ever suit, helmet, pack and apparel.

As they are separate standalone versions:
  • They have different base item ids as the Vanilla game ones.
  • They do not drop. Are not inside any containers. Or just lay around to be picked up.

So if you use those mod provided versions for every piece of every preset you use. And make sure every item is the only one of its baseitem type in your inventory. Each piece is forever gonna be the only one of its type in your inventory.

Inventory Filter / Sorter: ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/8671 )

This is another mod of mine that allows configuring where every type of item (weapon.armor, resource, junk, aid,ammo,contraband,books,....) that you loot goes.
Base mod has Inventory/Cargohold/TheVoid (delete item) as options. There is a patch that adds the 9 or so Lodge containers as destinations.

If all armor suits, helmets, boostpacks and apparel are configured to go into the Cargohold. Your inventory will always stay clean. In the sense. No secondary armor pieces of same base item id will arrive. (Well unless you remove it yourself manually from Cargohold). And this mod here will never equip the wrong item.
Retrieve only the pieces you want from your cargo hold into your inventory. Then use them as the presets.
