Overview

You may need to align vertices in Blender, either along a line or on a flat surface, but there is no "Align" function in Blender. This mini guide will tell you how to do it.

This tutorial assumes that you have a basic knowledge of Blender. If that is not the case I recommend you to read and practice with these tutorials Blender 3D: Noob to Pro

Align vertices in Blender

Align vertices along a line

Aligning vertices along a line
Aligned vertices

You are working on a mesh and you need to align some of its vertices along a line. The steps to follow are:

  • in Edit mode select the vertices you want to align as shown in picture Aligning vertices along a line
  • Select the menu option Mesh -> Transform -> Scale on Axis and then the axis that is perpendicular to the line you want to draw with the vertices (in the example, that is the X global axis, the red arrow).
  • Press the 0 (zero) key and then press Enter.

The selected vertices are now aligned forming a line perpendicular to the X axis as shown in picture Aligned vertices.

Align vertices on a plane

Aligning vertices on a plane
Vertices on a plane

You are working on a mesh and you need to align some of its vertices on a plane. The steps to follow are:

  • in Edit mode select the vertices you want to align as shown in picture Aligning vertices on a plane
  • Select the menu option Mesh -> Transform -> Scale on Axis and then the axis that is perpendicular to the plane you want the vertices to be on (in the example, that is the Z global axis, the blue arrow).
  • Press the 0 (zero) key and then press Enter.

The selected vertices are now on a plane perpendicular to the Z axis as shown in picture Vertices on a plane.
