Logging in via Vortex
To get the most out of Vortex, you need to log into your Nexus Mods account. This will allow you to download directly into Vortex, fetch mod information, check for updates and more. This help article will explain how to login to Vortex and discuss the most common problems you may face with this process.
How to log in
To get started, open Vortex and click either the login button on the dashboard or the red silhouette icon in the top right of the application.
This will open a pop-up window, click on the "Log In On Website" button to open the authorisation page in your browser.
Click the "Authorise" button to allow Vortex to sign in. Congratulations! You have successfully linked your Nexus Mods account to Vortex.
I'm not able to open the authorisation page, how can I log in?
If the authorisation page will not open, Vortex will give you a link you can copy to open it yourself.
If you're still not able to login using this method, you can click the "Not working? Try manual login" option.
This will require you to visit your API access page at the Nexus Mods website. At the top of the list, you will see Vortex and it will either have a long code next to it or a button to request an API key. Clicking "Request an API key" will reload the page and generate a key. Now you simply need to copy and paste the key into the box in Vortex and click save.
I am getting an "Authorisation Failed" error. What went wrong?
The authorisation might fail if a timeout occurs, usually when more than 10 minutes have passed between Vortex opening the authorisation page in your web browser, and you clicking the "Authorise" button. In that case, simply close and restart Vortex and attempt again, ensuring that you click the "Authorise" button as soon as possible after sending a request from Vortex.
