About this mod

Replaces the mage hand with a fully functional version that improves significantly with your level and can do everything: take items, open containers, use objects+doors+levers, pickpocket, disarm traps, and pick locks. Adds useful bonuses and abilities to the Mage Hand Legerdemain feature.

Replaces the mage hand with a fully functional version that can do everything: take items, open containers, use objects+doors+levers, pickpocket, disarm traps, and pick locks. It improves significantly with your level (at 3, 6, 9, and 12) and improves even more with the Mage Hand Legerdemain feature.

The cantrip has no cooldown. By default, the hand now lasts for 2 minutes and is summoned with 1 Thieves' Tools. If it fails a lockpicking check and the kit breaks, you'll have to have more in someone's inventory for it to use.

The mage hand's inventory can be accessed, and you can give it things or take things from it at will. To make it pick up items like containers or books that it won't automatically add to its inventory, drag the item from the world onto the hand's portrait.

NPCs will react to it committing crimes.

The hand can't equip anything. It won't start dialogue or start cutscenes. It intentionally won't use loading screen doors. Your party can only have one hand summoned at a time.

Please note that there are a couple rare things that will cause crashes if a conversation is forced on the hand by an unusual situation, like if you steal the druids' idol with the hand. If I can find a fix, I'll update. 

Improvements with level:
  • Level 3: proficiency in Sleight of Hand and Stealth.
  • Level 6: expertise in Sleight of Hand and Stealth.
  • Level 9: +4 Strength, movement doubled.
  • Level 12: invulnerable to damage and has advantage on Stealth checks.

The Mage Hand Legerdemain feature for Arcane Tricksters now has an actual purpose; in addition to invisibility capability and being permanent, it gives further bonuses and abilities at levels 6, 9, and 12.

Additional improvements with Legerdemain:
  • Level 3: permanent, goes invisible for a minute on sneak, summoned with 3 Thieves' Tools.
  • Level 6: gains a long-range teleport ability and +2 Dexterity.
  • Level 9: gains a telekinetic throwing ability that can toss heavy items and creatures around from a distance.
  • Level 12: advantage on Sleight of Hand checks.

You need to resummon the mage hand after leveling up to a milestone level for the new bonuses to apply.


Enemies will ignore the hand in combat. If it dies or is unsummoned, it will transfer its entire inventory to its summoner. The hand starts with 14 Dexterity and 10 HP now and is immune to more negative statuses.

To install:
  • Use the Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Manager. File > import mod > choose the .zip file for the mod > move the mod from the right side to the left side > File > save order > File > export order to game.
  • Install the script extender. This is required.
  • The mod fixer is still required. Some people think it isn't because their installed mods come packaged with it already, but it is 100% confirmed still required as of 9/8.
  • This MUST be loaded AFTER everything that touches the Mage Hand spell. Load this last of all to be safe.

To uninstall:
  • Make sure that you don't have an active hand summoned and take a long rest, then save. Now it can be uninstalled.
