When you received Slayer form in your evil playthrough, were you also disappointed by how weak it felt? Worry no longer!

Slayer Unleashed is a customizable rebalancing mod that changes the saving throw DCs for Slayer abilities to either a set DC (14 or 17), or to scale with your strength modifier instead of charisma (DC16 under level 9, DC17 at level 9, DC19 at level 10+). This mod aims to make Slayer form feel very powerful—so it's actually worth using in act 3—but not so overpowered it completely removes the game's challenge on tactician or honour modes.

Why balance it this way?

There are a few other mods that buff Slayer form, and while those are great, I think they go too far. In my opinion, the reason Slayer form fails to feel powerful is simple and easy to fix: Slayer's main attacks (Slay and Multiattack) require Slayer to inflict conditions on enemies (such as bleeding, dazed, prone) in order to be used to their full effectiveness. Slayer has a few abilities that inflict these conditions, but for whatever reason, Larian decided to have the game treat all of them like charisma spells. Since turning into Slayer reduces your charisma score to 8, this means the maximum DC your abilities can have is 11, making it unlikely enemies with any strength/constitution will fail the saving throws against you. This mod gives you a few options for increasing the DCs of your Slayer abilities so you can combo your moves properly and enjoy the carnage! If you don't think this mod does enough, I also have some other mod suggestions further in the description.

Different versions of this mod, explained.

I designed this mod in such a way that you can customize how much more powerful you make Slayer. In the "Optional Files" section of Files, you can download a mod for each individual Slayer ability.

Here is every Slayer ability that can be modified:

Here are your options to set the DC for each ability:
  • DC14
  • DC17
  • Strength Scaling DC (8 + proficiency + str mod. DC16 under level 9, DC17 at level 9, DC19 at level 10+)

That gives you 12 different mods to customize your Slayer! The order you put the mods in does not matter, they do not depend on each other.

If you don't want to download four mods to set each ability manually, there are also some presets in the main files section that will modify all four Slayer abilities in a single mod.

Preset options:
  • "Balanced" preset that gives Relentless Lunge a hard DC of 14, and makes all other Slayer abilities scale off strength instead of charisma (8 + proficiency + str mod).
  • Preset that gives all Slayer abilities a hard DC of 14.
  • Preset that gives all Slayer abilities a hard DC of 17.
  • Preset that changes all Slayer abilities to scale off of strength instead of charisma (8 + proficiency + str mod).

Please be mindful of how you mix and match these mods. If you install a preset from "Main Files," do not install any other presets alongside it nor any optional files. If you install a mod for an ability from "Optional Files," do not mix it with a mod that modifies that same ability, and do not install a preset. You will create a situation where the mods will overwrite each other. These mods should be safe to uninstall if need be, since they only modify how Slayer abilities work, and do not touch your save file.

Other Slayer buffing mods:

If you don't think this mod goes far enough buffing Slayer, here are some other great Slayer buffing mods you may want to consider if you're still searching:

Known issues.

There is a known bug with this mod where when the saving throw is hovered over in the combat log, the math to calculate the DC may be wrong (example can be seen in the "images" section of this mod page). Unless you are a modder who has a fix you would like to suggest, please do not report this as a bug. This is a purely visual bug, and the result will still show correctly and function as you would expect. It is not big enough of an issue to justify not releasing the mod, but if I ever do find a way to fix it, I'll update all the files accordingly!

Other than that, no known issues! This mod is very tiny and the changes it makes are very simple, so I would not expect it to cause problems nor do I expect it to need updating when Larian releases new patches (other than patch 7, since Larian will be releasing official mod support that patch).

A note to people who use Vortex.

Please don't send in bug reports or say it isn't working. This mod was made with BG3 Mod Manager in mind. If the mod is not working for you and you installed it with Vortex, I cannot easily troubleshoot. Plus, even putting that aside, I highly recommend the community created mod manager anyway, as I believe it is a significantly easier way to manage your mods and load orders. Theoretically, I believe it should be possible to install this mod with Vortex, though I've never tested it myself. Again though, please don't report any problems if you are using Vortex. I cannot help you.
